Grade 8 Art: Exploring Visual Media
In this hands-on course, middle school students will explore a variety of artistic techniques and media. The curriculum is designed to build on foundational skills while encouraging creative expression and personal style. Students will work on projects in drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art. The course will also introduce elements of art history and criticism, helping students to analyze and discuss artwork with confidence.
Unit 1: The Elements of Art & Principles of Design: Line, Shape, Color, Texture, Balance, Contrast.
Unit 2: Drawing & Perspective: Observational sketching and an introduction to one-point perspective.
Unit 3: Painting with Acrylics: Color theory, mixing, and application techniques.
Unit 4: 3D Sculpture: Working with clay and mixed media to create three-dimensional forms.
Successful completion of Grade 7 Art or a demonstrated interest in visual arts.
Materials: School-provided sketchbook, pencils, paints, clay, and other art supplies.
Online: Access to the Edulync LMS for artist spotlights and digital portfolio submissions.
Duration: Full School Year
